Services Exports

New South Wales is Australia's largest exporter of services, with a 41% share of the national total. The State is the nation's premier international tourist destination, as well as being a centre for international learning, finance and business.

Over 103,000 overseas students are enrolled in New South Wales higher education and vocational education and training institutions, representing 41% of the national total. The value of education-related services increased by 14% to $4.3 billion in 2006-07.

The State's exports of computer, information and communication services were valued at $1.1 billion in 2006-07, and exports of financial and insurance services exceeded $1 billion. Legal, accounting and architectural firms are taking advantage of an increasing range of market opportunities in Asia’s developing services industry. As a result, New South Wales' exports of other business services, including professional and technical services, are growing strongly, increasing by 19% to $3.4 billion in 2006-07.
