Services Exports

New South Wales services exports make up 40% of Australia’s services exports. The State is the nation’s premier international tourist destination and largest provider of education services for international students. The State is also the dominant exporter of financial and business services.

As at November 2008, over 142,000 overseas students were enrolled in NSW higher education and vocational education and training institutions, representing 40% of the national total. The value of education-related services exports increased by 25% to $5.3 billion in 2007-08.

Legal, accounting and architectural firms are taking advantage of an increasing range of market opportunities in Asia’s developing services industry. New South Wales’ exports of professional services grew by 29% to $1.2 billion in 2007-08 and exports of architectural, engineering and other technical services increased by 62% to $413 million. The State’s exports of computer and information services were valued at $803m and grew by almost 12% in 2007-08.
