Australia is a highly efficient place to start a business. Australia was ranked first in the world for ease of starting a business and ninth overall for the ease of doing business according to the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation. The New South Wales Government is committed to reducing regulatory costs. It conducts sector-by-sector red tape reviews geared towards saving business time and money by reducing excessive regulation, and applying best practice approaches to compliance in areas such as local government regulation, government procurement and taxation.

Australia ranks highly in terms of technological infrastructure. Australia ranks fourth in the world for internet penetration rates and eight in the world for computer use. ICT is a major element of the New South Wales services sector. The State is home to 46% of all business in Australia that specialise in ICT.

Sydney has exceptional event infrastructure that delivered the "best ever" Olympic Games in 2000, the 2003 Rugby World Cup and the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders Meeting in 2007. In 2008, Sydney will host World Youth Day, with up to 500,000 visitors. The State has the largest number of accommodation bed spaces in Australia to support these events, with the most five-star accommodation beds located in Sydney.
