Business Travel Expenses

Given its global status, Sydney is a highly competitive place to do business. This is demonstrated by the latest business travel survey by Mercer Human Resource Consulting. The average daily short-term allowance provided to business travellers to Sydney (including five-star accommodation, meals and laundry but excluding airfares) in the September quarter 2005 was $616, about the same as San Francisco and significantly lower than other global locations in Asia and Europe.

Sydney's affordability, world-class venues and facilities, renowned hospitality and stunning harbour location make it an ideal place to hold business conferences, meetings and conventions. In 2006-07 Sydney won bids for 30 new events, representing 24,960 delegates and a combined economic value of more than $100 million. Sydney is attracting increasing numbers of events from the Asia Pacific with China, Taiwan and Korea seen as the most promising markets in the years ahead.

Consistently rated as one of the best cities in the world, Sydney has much to offer both the business and holiday traveller.
