Airport Logistics/Airport Movements

Sydney has Australia's busiest airport, accounting for 44% of Australia's international aircraft movements and 46% of Australia's international air passenger movements. A record 31 million domestic and international passengers travelled through Sydney airport in 2007, an increase of 6.4% or 1.87 million people on the previous year.

Sydney Airport is Australia's international air freight hub, accounting for nearly half of all international freight tonnage handled by Australian airports. In 2006-07, 370,000 tonnes or 49% of Australia’s air freight movement, were loaded or discharged at Sydney airport through cargo terminals.

More than 37 international airlines operate through Sydney Airport. During 2007, Sydney Airport welcomed the commencement of services by Eithad and Jetstar International, and the first passenger flight of the A380.

Recent and planned investment in Sydney and New South Wales infrastructure will further increase Sydney Airport's dominant freight handling and aircraft movement capacity.
