Airport Logistics/Airport Movements

Sydney has Australia's busiest airport, accounting for over 43% of Australia's international aircraft movements and over 45% of Australia's international air passenger movements in 2008. A record 32.7 million domestic and international passengers travelled through Sydney airport in 2007-08, an increase of 5.4% or 1.68 million people on the previous year.

Sydney Airport is Australia's international air freight hub, accounting for half of all international freight tonnage handled by Australian airports. In 2007-08, 390,600 tonnes or 50% of Australia's air freight tonnage, was loaded or discharged at Sydney airport’s cargo terminals.

More than 33 international airlines operate through Sydney Airport. During 2008, Sydney Airport welcomed Delta airlines, the world’s largest airline, who will provide flights from Sydney to Atlanta. In 2008, a number of milestones for commercial A380 flights were reached, with Qantas launching its first A380 flight from Sydney to Los Angeles and Emirates making its first A380 flight from Sydney to Auckland. The launch of A380 service flights helps Sydney Airport meet the demand for air travel from passengers.

Planned investment of $500 million by Sydney Airport will lead to the expansion and upgrade of Sydney’s International Terminal, providing passengers with improved travel facilities.
