Making Dollars and Sense
Community events are excellent ways to promote an area, support tourism initiatives, increase business opportunities and create community harmony. Community groups, town co-ordinators, service clubs, local businesses and chambers of commerce can all be involved in promoting, staging and reaping the benefits of a successful event.
Some community events have grown into national and international festivals, such as the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Lake Macquarie Council, through its I&I NSW-funded Community Economic Development Co-ordinator, developed a comprehensive kit to help businesses and event co-ordinators maximise the economic advantages of events.
The kit covers planning, promotion, sponsorship, evaluation, risk management and includes a facilitator's guide. This is an indispensible resource for all community event organisers. The kit can be downloaded below.
