Advisory councils

Industry & Investment NSW's State & Regional Development and Tourism division receives advice through a number of advisory councils.

The councils are a key link between industry, the community and Government and provide advice on policies, strategies and research to assist in promoting and encouraging growth in New South Wales.

NSW-Asia Business Council
The NSW Government recognises the advantages of sourcing advice from experienced business people on opportunities to strengthen NSW's competitiveness in Asia. The NSW-Asia Business Council was established as an advisory body to the Minister for State Development to support the development of business and cultural links with neighbouring Asian communities. The Council is chaired by the Hon. Henry Tsang OAM MLC, Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and assisting the Treasurer on Trade and Investment.

NSW Innovation Council
The NSW Government has established an Innovation Council with a secretariat, housed within State & Regional Development and Tourism, to implement NSW's innovation approach. The Council advises the Government on policies and strategies which create an environment where it is easier for businesses to innovate, improve the innovative capacity of the NSW private sector, help increase investment and build stronger rural and regional economies.

NSW Manufacturing Council
The NSW Manufacturing Council is an advisory body to the NSW Government on issues impacting on manufacturing in NSW.  The Council is chaired by Professor Roy Green, Dean, Faculty of Businesss, University of Technology, Sydney and its members are drawn from industry, unions, academia and government. The Council addresses the status of manufacturing in NSW, the challenges facing the sector, and how the NSW Government can support and promote NSW manufacturers and their products.

Regional Development Advisory Council
The Regional Development Advisory Council is the peak advisory body that makes recommendations to the NSW Minister for Regional Development on regional development issues. It also advises on ways in which the Government and communities can work together to strengthen the capacity of communities to respond to local economic and business issues.

Small Business Development Corporation of NSW
The Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) advises the Minister for Small Business on policies, programs and the special needs of the small business sector. It develops that advice through consultations, research, forums and inquiries. The SBDC is part of the NSW Government's strategy to assist small business in the fields of innovation, export support and high-quality information services to increase the skills and knowledge base of business owners and managers.
