Innovation Clusters

Alliances and industry clusters stimulate networking to create business opportunities, and encourage technology and information exchange between growing companies.

DSRD supports innovation clusters in Western Sydney, Northern Sydney, Coffs Harbour, and Newcastle, including groups specific to the ICT and building and construction industries.

Western Sydney's ICT industry provides the largest concentration of small to medium sized ICT companies in Australia. These 1,500 ICT businesses have an annual turnover of more than A$3 billion.

The Western Sydney IT Cluster (WSITC) has more than 240 member companies and during 2005/06, its members generated more than A$50 million in new business/sales, either directly or indirectly due to their membership of the cluster. Collectively, members turned over more than A$500 million for the local economy.

WSITC is Australia's largest gathering of ICT small and medium enterprises and has strong ties with industry associations, government agencies, research and educational institutions and private organisations that provide professional and specialist services. The WSITC slogan of "working together for mutual benefit" reflects its focus on three main objectives: access to government, business information and growth, international and domestic promotion.
