National ICT Australia (NICTA) plays a major role in the Australian Government's policy to promote science and innovation. Its aim is to capitalise on Australia's extensive ICT talent through world-class research, commercialisation, education, and industry collaboration.
Based in Sydney, NICTA builds on NSW's position as a leading ICT hub in the Asia Pacific. The NSW Government, through DSRD, works closely with NICTA to build relationships with NSW businesses, particularly in the ICT industry, and to attract investment to NSW.
NICTA's research efforts focus on the technology challenges facing industry, community, and the national interest. NICTA's two initial priority areas are 'trusted wireless networks' and 'from data to knowledge'.
NICTA employs more than 100 full time researchers in NSW and two of its four major projects are located in the State.
