New South Wales - delivering major games and event expertise to the world

New South Wales (NSW) and its capital Sydney are home to a range of companies with international experience in the delivery of infrastructure and services for major sport and cultural events.

The NSW Government, through the Department of State and Regional Development (DSRD), works with leading NSW companies to identify and help secure contracts for the planning and delivery of events worldwide.

Many of these companies developed their expertise preparing for the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and further honed their skills by contributing to the planning and delivery of subsequent events including the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games, Rugby World Cup 2003, Athens 2004 Olympic Games, the Torino 2006 Winter Olympic Games, and the Doha 2006 Asian Games.

Efforts are ongoing to secure work for future events, including the Rio de Janeiro 2007 Pan American Games, the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and the London 2012 Olympic Games.

DSRD is building valuable links between the organising committees and host governments of major games, and Australian Olympic and Commonwealth Games specialists, while maintaining a commitment to helping overseas countries deliver highly successful events.

DSRD introduces Australian expertise, facilitates the delivery of management and technical advice and provides information and support to Australian businesses.

Australian International Sporting Events Secretariat

Australian expertise in the planning and delivery of major games is internationally recognised and the Australian International Sporting Events Secretariat (AISES) has been established to enable event organisers to benefit from these world class capabilities.

A joint initiative of the NSW and Victorian Governments, AISES helps international companies and organising committees obtain advice and referrals for the planning, building and staging major events.

AISES facilitates access to Australian specialists and companies, including those that worked on the successful Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
