The NSW Government has secured 165 new solar energy jobs in Western Sydney.
Silex Systems Limited has agreed to buy the BP Solar manufacturing facility at Homebush and further develop the facility as a manufacturing base for solar cells.
The NSW Government worked to secure the sale of the operation to Silex through assistance provided by the Department of State and Regional Development (DSRD).
This is fantastic news for Western Sydney not only will we see the creation of 165 new jobs but this deal will also generate $30 million in investment over the next five years, Mr Rees said.
It will also see the continuation in production of solar cells and panels at the Sydney Olympic Park site.
"This further demonstrates the NSW Government's commitment to developing renewable energy alternatives, where green skills and green jobs can grow."
Silex Systems CEO Dr Michael Goldsworthy said the purchase of the BP Solar manufacturing facility was a win-win result which would kick-start Silexs efforts in solar manufacturing.
It is also a win for NSW because it means the State will continue to be a centre of innovation and excellence in solar energy bringing advanced technology to the global solar industry for years to come, Dr Goldsworthy said.
I thank the NSW Government, in particular the Department of State and Regional Development, for their active support of this acquisition.
