Hunter Defence & Hunter Net
Hunter Defence is a collaborative task force focused on demonstrating the capability of established Hunter defence industry suppliers to government and primes, as well as upskilling local SMEs to become ‘Defence Ready’.
The Taskforce delivers a number of initiatives for the region, including the annual Hunter Defence Conference, with over 160 delegates attending from around the nation. In addition to this, there are CEO luncheons, Industry Briefings, regular communications on Defence opportunities to a growing audience and an online capability matrix, demonstrating the Hunter as a national leader in defence support, supply and sustainment, with strong industry capabilities across land, sea and air.
In 2021, Hunter Defence won federal government support for a ground-breaking industry skilling program designed to help regional businesses win contracts. Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price announced at the Hunter Defence Conference that the government would invest $430,000 to facilitate the rollout of the Defence Ready Pilot program developed by Hunter Defence. This Defence Ready Pilot will be offered to businesses free of charge and will provide vital information and education to help companies become ‘Defence Ready’.
Hunter Defence is a collaborative group that includes key stakeholders across business, industry, government and education. It is financially supported by HunterNet, Newcastle Airport, Hunter Business Chamber and the NSW Government.

Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price announced at the Hunter Defence Conference that the government would invest $430,000 to facilitate the rollout of the Defence Ready Pilot program developed by Hunter Defence. This Defence Ready Pilot will be offered to businesses free of charge and will provide vital information and education to help companies become ‘Defence Ready’.
Hunter Defence is a collaborative group that includes key stakeholders across business, industry, government and education. It is financially supported by HunterNet, Newcastle Airport, Hunter Business Chamber and the NSW Government.
