Independent Brewers Action Plan

There are over 170 independent breweries in NSW, employing around 3,300 people. Two-thirds are in regional NSW and more are opening all the time. The state’s brewers are capitalising upon changing tastes amongst consumers who are looking for artisanal, premium and natural products made with local ingredients and characteristics.

Economic development agencies across Government have worked in collaboration with the Independent Brewers Association to identify relevant activities to further grow the industry in NSW. The result is the NSW Independent Brewers Action Plan, a suite of activities to:

  • encourage the industry to work with government and academia for commercial advantage
  • create a fit-for purpose workforce
  • support and accelerate business development
  • help attract investment and boost access to international markets

The NSW Independent Brewers Action Plan will support the continued economic development of the independent brewing industry in the state. It will help the industry’s goal of positioning NSW as an Asia-Pacific centre of excellence for craft beer and enable our brewers to take advantage of substantial domestic and international opportunities.

The Action Plan has been developed as part of the NSW Government’s Food and Beverage Manufacturing Industry Development Strategy and NSW Food and Wine Tourism Strategy and Action Plan.
