Vocational education

NSW has a robust vocational education and training system, with public, community and private providers offering high quality training right around the state.

The NSW Government is committed to making training more relevant and accessible, and supporting people to get qualifications to make them job-ready.

Smart and Skilled

Through Smart and Skilled, the NSW Government is subsidising vocational qualifications in areas of skills need - making it easier for people to get training, and ensuring a pipeline of skilled workers to support businesses in NSW.

There are more than 750 supported qualifications up to Advanced Diploma level across fields like electrical engineering, early childhood education and care and information technology.

Under Smart and Skilled, approved providers offer subsidised training across the state, giving students and employers more flexibility and choice when it comes to finding a training provider that suits their needs.

For businesses seeking to take on young people, we have capped apprenticeship fees at $2,000, and traineeship fees at $1,000. Under Smart and Skilled, students, where eligible may qualify for fee exemptions or concessions.
