Are you an incubator, accelerator or facilitator operating in the space industry? We are seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from organisations relevant to the space sector with deep-tech experience to activate and administer one or both of the following Space Industry Development Strategy initiatives:
- the National Space Industry Hub
- a pilot space qualification mission.
The National Space Industry Hub will attract space sector startups, SMEs and researchers to a centralised location, creating a hub that is focussed on collaboration and commercialisation.
The second initiative, a space qualification mission, addresses one of the biggest and most costly hurdles to participation in the space sector: proving technology works in space. The program will assist NSW space businesses and researchers to overcome this barrier and achieve the technology readiness level required to participate in global supply chains.
Through these initiatives of the NSW Space Industry Development Strategy, the NSW Government is committed to ensuring the space sector is well positioned to benefit from the continued, rapid-growth and demand for space-enabled technologies.
Our vision for the NSW space industry
Our vision is for NSW to be the premier destination in Australia and the Asia-Pacific to commercialise space technology. By providing a vibrant and collaborative ecosystem of innovative businesses, the NSW space industry will be a valuable contributor to the Australian economy and to global supply chains.
Australia’s economy is heavily reliant on space-related technology, which in turn presents significant opportunities for Australia’s space industry organisations. Space-derived products, services and applications are used by a multitude of other industries, such as communications, transportation, advanced manufacturing and agriculture. As the financial and risk barriers to participation in the space industry decrease, the development, adoption and use of these products is set to continue.
With NSW being home to 41% of Australian space-related businesses and generating around half of all revenue nationally, the state is well placed to take advantage of this new space era.
