NSW capabilities on show at world’s biggest space conference
NSW’s space industry's strengths are being promoted internationally at the world's leading space industry conference in Germany this week.
The NSW Government is exhibiting on the Australian Space Agency's booth at the 69th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Bremen from 1-5 October.
The Department of Industry is at the Congress to promote the NSW aerospace industry and the state’s capabilities to an international audience.
The IAC is the biggest international conference for the space industry, attracting over 6,300 space industry participants from around the world this year.
The multidisciplinary event includes a scientific conference program of plenary and technical sessions as well as a space exhibition.
The NSW desk at the IAC features a number of NSW space companies and organisations including FluroSat, Azimuth Advisory, Saber Astronautics, Space Ops and the Australian Centre for Space Engineering Research (ACSER) from UNSW. These companies and organisations are attending the event to promote their capabilities and to take advantage of networking opportunities that can increase their global profile.
FluroSat, a NSW space startup, also presented at a plenary session on the application of small satellites in precision agriculture.
NSW is Australia’s leading state for the space industry and is competing to host the new Australian Space Agency, with the NSW bid being led by Australia’s first astronaut, Dr Paul Scully-Power AM.
NSW is home to 41% of Australia’s space businesses. It is the nation's leading high-tech research and manufacturing state, offering a strong combination of technical expertise, university support, advanced manufacturing capabilities and some of the nation’s top electronics companies.
NSW is also home to Australia’s first space accelerator, the nation’s biggest space start-up industry and the Sydney Startup Hub.
The NSW Government is building an Aerospace and Defence Industries Precinct in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, and is developing a NSW aerospace industry development strategy to focus the government’s collaborative efforts at growing the industry in NSW. The government is already working with 26 space education and research departments in eight universities across the state.
